If you are a friend

  • Ask first

Hugs, toys, hair, games. Wait for yes. No is a full answer.

  • Wait

Count slowly after you ask. Do not stack more questions on top.

  • Don’t grab

Do not pull their arm, spin them, or move their body for them.

  • Believe them

If they say too loud, too bright, or too much — that is true.

  • Take the love seriously

The thing they love is not a joke. Ask one real question about it.

If the body wants a job

A board can be a voice. Open AAC.

Grown-ups: sit nearby if asked. Do not turn this into a test. Follow the child. This is not medical advice.
